Real brides

Real weddings, real dresses. Brides and bridesmaids tell us how they found theirs, and how the day went.

Stories from our community

Real weddings in designer and pre-loved dresses

Every dress here has been worn on a real wedding day. From Oui The Label and Pronovias wedding dresses to Rewritten bridesmaid dresses in sage green, olive and burnt orange, these are the brides, bridesmaids and couples who chose Something Borrowed, and what they told us afterwards.

Most of them started with a try-on, trying their favourites in their own time before deciding. Some bought their dress to keep, others hired it for their wedding. And all of them liked knowing their dress would be worn and loved again.

“Choosing these bridesmaid dresses was not only a winner in terms of how stunning my girls looked, but also filled me with happiness knowing that many women have worn and will wear the same dresses for their loved ones' special day too.”

Oui The Label Phoenix

Meryn in Oui The Label

“I felt extra special knowing that I had picked a more sustainable option for my wedding dress. I hope the dress will continue on its journey to make other brides just as happy as I was wearing it, as it has done for the others before me.”

Rewritten Florence and Brooklyn

“It was really easy and straightforward. It's great for the bride as you can have a beautiful dress without the cost, and perfect for the bridesmaids too because you don't have to store the dress afterwards. I'm too sentimental to get rid of bridesmaid dresses myself, but I never wear them again. I loved the idea after finding you, and you had the exact dresses I was looking at buying.”

“Having been a bridesmaid myself, I knew dresses tended to just sit in a wardrobe afterwards, and I wanted to reduce the environmental footprint of my wedding. So when I found out Something Borrowed had the Rewritten dresses, I didn't hesitate.”

Lisa and Dan

“From my first email the responses were very helpful and how it all worked was very clear. From the website, reviews and Instagram I felt very confident in trusting Something Borrowed. I'd highly recommend it. Between me and the bridesmaids we told most of the wedding guests, and hardly anyone knew it was even an option!”

“I can't understand the logic of spending so much money on something only to wear it once, and I'm always looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly in my choices.”

“Truly can't thank you enough. You made the whole process so easy and special, which I was afraid of missing out on. The variety of dresses meant there was so much to choose from, so I never felt I was settling, and we found the most perfect dress, thanks to your incredible patience. Truly couldn't recommend Something Borrowed enough.”

“Brilliant service, even when I was worried about numbers of bridesmaids and whether dresses would fit. Receiving and returning was simple, exactly the same as ordering from anywhere else. There's a large selection and plenty to suit everybody.”

Such a wonderful experience from beginning to end, and it felt so good not to be paying thousands for a dress I'd only wear once.

Real brides: your questions

Can I see real brides wearing your dresses?

Yes. Every bride and bridesmaid on this page wore a dress from Something Borrowed on her wedding day. You'll find more of their stories in the Journal.

Can I try a dress on before my wedding?

Yes. With try-on you choose up to three wedding and bridesmaid dresses, in any mix, and we post them to you for four days. It's £75, which comes off an order placed within 30 days, plus a £150 deposit refunded once the dresses are back.

Can I buy and hire wedding dresses here?

Yes. Most of our dresses are to buy and keep, and many can also be hired, from four days. You'll see the options on each dress. Browse wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses.

Can my bridesmaids wear different colours?

Yes. Our Rewritten bridesmaid dresses come in coordinating colours such as sage green, olive green, forest green and burnt orange, so your bridesmaids can mix colours and shapes across sizes.
