How Does Wedding Dress Rental Actually Work?

Wedding dress rental means you borrow a designer gown for your wedding day and send it back afterwards, rather than buying a dress you will only ever wear once. The key step is a home try-on: we deliver a shortlist of dresses to your door, you try them on in your own light and your own time, and you only commit once you have found the one.

It is a simpler, kinder way to do the dress, and it costs a fraction of buying. Here is exactly how it works, start to finish, with honest answers to the questions brides ask us most.

Wedding dress rental, step by step

  1. Browse and book your home try-on. Choose your favourites from the collection and book a £75 four-day home try-on. The fee is redeemable against your rental, so trying before you commit costs nothing extra if you go ahead.
  2. Your shortlist arrives at your door. We deliver the dresses you chose, anywhere in the UK, ready to try at home.
  3. Try at home, keep what you love. Spend four days with your shortlist, with the people whose opinion actually matters. Keep the one you love and send the rest back.
  4. Your gown arrives ready to wear. Ahead of your date, your chosen dress is delivered freshly cleaned and pressed, so it is ready for the morning of.
  5. Wear it, then post it back. After the wedding, return your gown using the prepaid label. We handle the dry cleaning. No storage, no resale, no fuss.

The home try-on, and why it matters

Buying a dress online and hoping for the best is nerve-wracking. So we built the whole thing around trying first. Instead of a showroom appointment with a stranger watching the clock, your shortlist comes to you. You see how each gown moves in your own daylight, sit down in it, take photos, ask the people you trust, and sleep on it. Four days is long enough to be genuinely sure, not rushed into a decision you talk yourself into.

There are no appointments to book and no trips to London. Everything comes to your door, and goes back with a prepaid label.

When to book, and how far ahead

The honest answer is the earlier the better, because popular gowns and dates do get reserved. We would gently suggest starting your home try-on a few months before the wedding, so you have time to try, decide, and settle on your final choice without pressure. If your date is sooner, do get in touch anyway. We will always tell you straight whether we can make it work rather than overpromise.

Once you have chosen, we reserve your gown for your date and deliver it freshly cleaned and pressed ahead of time, so it is ready and waiting well before the morning of the wedding.

Sizing and fit

This is where renting really earns its keep, because you try before you commit. The home try-on lets you see how a dress actually sits on you, rather than guessing from a size label. If you are between sizes or unsure, that is exactly what the four-day window is for. Try your shortlist, see what feels right, and keep the one that does.

For small adjustments on the day, a good steam and the right underthings go a long way, and we are always happy to talk you through what works for a particular gown. You can also rent veils and accessories to finish the look, and bridesmaid dresses for the whole party, including Rewritten, so everyone is sorted in one place.

Cleaning, returns and damage

Your gown always arrives freshly cleaned and pressed, ready to wear. After the wedding, you post it straight back to us with the prepaid label, and we take care of the dry cleaning. You never have to clean it, store it, or work out what to do with it afterwards.

And the worry every bride has, a spilled drink or a trodden hem, is one we have already planned for. Gentle, everyday wear is simply part of renting and is expected. So you can relax and enjoy your day rather than guarding your dress all evening. If you would like the finer detail, our how it works page covers it in full.

What you can rent

Our bridal collection includes designer gowns from Vivienne Westwood, Pronovias and Oui The Label, with rental from around £20, a small fraction of what these dresses cost to buy. Alongside the gowns, you will find veils and accessories to finish the look, and bridesmaid dresses to hire for the whole party. Everything is delivered UK-wide, and every return is prepaid and simple.

Frequently asked questions

How does wedding dress rental work?

You browse the collection and book a £75 four-day home try-on, redeemable against your rental. We deliver your shortlist to your door, you try the dresses at home and keep the one you love, and we send your final choice freshly cleaned and pressed ahead of the date. After the wedding, you post it back with a prepaid label and we handle the dry cleaning.

How much does it cost to rent a wedding dress?

Rental starts from around £20, with most designer gowns a small fraction of their retail price. The £75 home try-on is redeemable against your rental, so trying before you commit costs nothing extra if you go ahead.

What if the dress does not fit?

That is exactly why the home try-on comes first. You try your shortlist on at home over four days and keep only the gown that feels right, so you are never committing to a size on guesswork. If you are between sizes, try both and decide in your own time.

Who cleans the dress, and what if it gets marked?

We do. Your gown arrives freshly cleaned and pressed, and after the wedding we take care of all the dry cleaning when you post it back. Gentle, everyday wear is expected and already accounted for, so you can enjoy your day without worrying about every glass of wine.

How far in advance should I book?

The earlier the better, as popular gowns and dates do get reserved. We suggest starting your home try-on a few months before the wedding where you can, but if your date is sooner, get in touch and we will tell you honestly whether we can make it work.

Do I have to go to a showroom?

No. Everything comes to you, anywhere in the UK. There are no appointments and no trips to London. Your dresses arrive at your door and go back with a prepaid label.

Book your £75 home try-on and have your shortlist delivered to your door this week. It is redeemable against your rental, so there is nothing to lose by trying first.
