Winter is here, now to choose your wedding dress

It is well known that Spring / Summer is a very popular time of the year for a wedding, yet many brides still opt for the romance and charm of a Winter wedding. The moody weather can supply a stunning backdrop for the photos, a log fire can add cosiness to any venue, and of course, a glass of mulled wine never goes a miss. So we get why Winter is a must for some of you, so what do you need to consider when choosing the later part of the year to hold your very special day?

The venue – there are certain aspects of wedding venues that work beautifully when the sun is shining and your guests are full of the joys of summer, however, you need to review each venue with perhaps a slightly more sensible hat on when considering a Winter date. Your guests need to be warm enough, you may need more lighting (we recommend checking if candles are allowed), and you may want to stay in one venue or limit the travel between two, you could provide some umbrellas or even wellies if rain is forecast. Aside from the more logistical aspects, a mid-Winter date can add automatic drama and ambience to a historic venue like a castle or church, whilst a chic hotel stay-all-day do can be the perfect oasis amid a busy Christmas period.

The theme – once you have your venue you can build those mood boards and really begin to plan your theme. Think magical, historical, mystical, opulent, Nordic – well there are so many to choose from. Once settled on a theme you could explore the secondhand selling sites and marketplaces to find decorations that others have used once and are looking to pass on. This kind of eco-conscious approach will help save money and save waste. Considering your wedding flowers next, choosing a colour palette with depth can add sophistication whilst an all-white bouquet is striking and elegant.

The dress – having your wedding in the Winter can actually open up the proverbial bridalwear wardrobe as colder weather can mean more layers, more accessories. So where to start? Well having decided upon your venue it is a good idea to think about where you will be walking, what locations will you be shooting your photos in, and of course, what styles go with your chosen theme? If you have chosen the magical vibe then the Capulet dress from Oui The Label certainly brings the gothic chic alive. We also particularly love that this time of year enables you to opt for a cover-up such as the super cool Biker Jacket from Paper to Lace.

If a Winter wedding is your choice of season, there are a few more logistical challenges to consider but perhaps you will agree with us when we say, waking up on a crisp winters morning on your wedding day is a pretty perfect start to any new chapter in a love story – so we say go for it, book that date and begin creating your dream ‘I do’ day.

You can also rent your bridesmaid dresses from Something Borrowed, and the stunning tonal colour palette of the Rewritten range will be the perfect addition to your Winter wedding.
