The idea of renting dresses for either yourself, as the bride, or your bridesmaids is a very obvious one for some brides today, however, we know for others it is still a new route to take. Naturally it raises some questions such as which dress will suit me (or my bridesmaid), how will I know what size or even how can I share the ‘choosing the one’ experience if I am not visiting a traditional wedding dress retailer?
At Something Borrowed, service is super important to us, from ensuring you have the experience you desire to making sure either yourself or all your besties have the right size dress for their important role as a bridesmaid. That’s why we offer our home try-on service: a service designed to enable you to answer all of those questions, leaving you feeling confident about your decision.
Our recent renter, Charlotte, knew that she wanted to rent bridesmaid dresses because “Sustainability is very important to me and it also means we can get far nicer dresses for our budget, so it's a win-win!” After finding us, Charlotte listened to the Nearlyweds podcast episode where we are mentioned so decided to go ahead with our at home try-on option. Charlotte didn’t consider buying the dresses, as knew rental was the right option for her. After, looking at some other rental companies, she settled on us stating “Nowhere else offered the variety of styles, multiple sizes and professional service”.
She went on to add “The try-on service was a real differentiating factor in choosing Something Borrowed. Knowing that my girls could try on the dresses before the big day meant that we could nail down the right sizes and colours, well in advance. I'd hate my bridesmaids to be uncomfortable with what they are wearing, so it offered peace of mind for everyone to try them on.”
Our founder, Christie, set out on a mission to give brides the option to reduce waste and save money, but without compromising on quality or excellent customer service. Recognising that for a lot of brides, the trying on is a big part of the process, and having a say in how they experience that is something brides want. That’s why Christie created the home try-on service. The added bonus of doing it in the comfort of your own home means our brides can do it their way, with their mothers, best friends or on their own – whatever works best. Charlotte gathered her bridesmaids for the event and shared that “It was great to have the flexibility in where we tried the dresses on, rather than everyone having to get to a store in London or Manchester. It helped everyone feel super relaxed without shop assistants floating around, and generally made for a really fun experience.”
Our try-on service allows you to order any three dresses you like, so for anyone like Charlotte who is renting bridesmaid dresses, it offers a great opportunity to ensure your bridesmaids get the right size, and perhaps the right colour. “For trying on, I got one colour in a couple of sizes, and a different colour in the larger size, so that everyone could find the right size and colour for them” stated Charlotte. It can also be really helpful if your besties are in between sizes and need to find the perfect fit.
If you are ordering a wedding dress rental then a choice of dresses gives you the option to try out different styles, or if you know which style is for you, you can explore the sizes to get the right fit for you.
To date, we have had such great feedback from our brides on the try-on option as it gives them ownership over their very own try-on experience and means they can confidently tick that dress rental off their list in advance, and rest assured that everything is going to fit perfectly and look beautiful on their big day.
Charlotte stated that she would “recommend renting bridesmaids’ dresses to anyone.” She added “The wedding industry can be so wasteful, so any way of minimising that waste is worth it. Renting also means you can get more for your money, so your bridesmaids can look even more beautiful and feel comfortable on the day. I would absolutely recommend the try-on service; you definitely don't want to be dealing with any sizing panics on the morning of the wedding! It's also helpful for bridesmaids to try on the dresses and think about any accessories, shoes or specific underwear they'll need on the day.”

Saving money, saving the planet - what's not to like!” We couldn’t agree more, thank you Charlotte for sharing your experience – we can’t wait to be a part of your big day in October.
